Between the Slices

The original lunchtime fare no longer fills our bellies at noon time, but any time of the day or night.  I love a great sandwich at one o’clock in the morning, for dinner and even breakfast.  What factors determine a great sandwich? Is there more to sandwich making than meets the taste buds?

There’s just something sexy about creating a great sandwich.  There’s a lot of heart that goes into it.  Constructing a sammie can be likened to creating a work of art, a true gift for the receiver.  Of course, this is the attitude I have when I create all meals.  However, the sandwich can prove to be a deal maker or breaker.

Here’s how I determine what will happen between the slices:

1. Who will be enjoying my delectable masterpiece?

2. What time of day is it?

3. Am I trying to impress or merely fill a belly?

4. Which slices will I choose? Soft, Crusty, Dark, Light, White, Sourdough, Ethnic?

5. Will we need condiments?

6. What is the main ingredient? Turkey, Roast Beef, Last Night’s Meatloaf, Sunday’s Meatballs?

7. Do we need accompaniments? Cheese, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Pickles, Sprouts, Avocado?

Finally, if your sandwich needs a side dish, it may not be satisfying enough.  Take a good look at yourself.  Is your heart in the sandwich making?  Make a good assessment of the situation and build that sandwich to touch not only the belly, but the soul of whomever will be savoring it.  If you know your masterpiece originated from your heart, and a side dish is still desired, find someone else to feed.

Tell me what’s going on in your life.  I want to hear from you.

Wishing you love, balance and peace!

Amore & Baci,

Just Steph
